Was checking this thing out so decided to wiki it to learn more. Noticed it's 235ci stickers (among many others) figured it had a 6 but didn't know it was the big 6 of two choices and no 8 was available. Kinda cool anyway minus the American rice.

The '57 is the "most desirable" but the lines on the '55 were always my favorite.

The Bel Air was introduced as a 1950 car. The SBC didn't come along until '55.

A lot of American cars from that era had a flat or OHV 6 cylinder. Chevy finally released the small block V8 in '55, about 5 years after Bel Air production began. Meanwhile Ford had been making them since 1932 and Chrysler had begun production in 1951.

And if one wanted more than six GM buckets, one needed to get a Buick Eight or a Cadillac, pretty much.

Or a Pontiac or Chrysler straight-8. I really really want something old with a straight-8 engine in it.
